Love As Undoing

02/11/2017

Love does not usually or necessarily

take the form of peaceful union.

Love often manifests as a sole intention,

at once

a striding towards and a striding away.

It is the crashing down of boundaries,

leaving us in shambles,

disrupted and disarticulated.

In such circumstances,

love functions as the demand

not to be a known and knowable

fixed and isolated self

with its network of social relations

built around me

but a gem reflecting all others

just as they reflect you –

yet without informing us

how.

Love here is an undoing,

hanging us from the upside down

hook of a question mark

unmoored

and dangling sheer air.
