Losing It

Someone who gets on your nerves

gets on your nerves –

and this time

you lose it.

You let ’em have it.

You may think

you lose control

of your self

in such moments.

But self is precisely

what you are

tightly locked into.

Locked into

expectation denied,

or what unavoidably hurts,

or what sticks in your craw.

The gap between

what is

and what should be,

between what you are

and what you should be –

that’s what you’re angry about.

How different the approach

if you do not live

as the tension

of this gap,

but live without

such constructed divisions,

without gain

or loss,

losing, loosing

just as this.
