Moods

10/05/2014

Thoughts don’t bother as much as the underlying moods. Can’t get them them to cease.

So there seems to be more going on than just the moods. You don’t want certain ones.

Yes, of course, I don’t want the anger, the depression.

So all at once you’re a complex of thoughts and feelings bouncing off of each other. The mood, the feeling you don’t want, the failed attempts at control.  You’re really not two beings, one made of moods, the other fighting them, right?

Guess so.

Let me ask you, do you hear that sound?

Yes.

Any strong feelings about it?

No.

The one that hears that, just registers it, right?

Yes, in this particular case.

Doesn’t judge it, right?

No.

Hears without resistance, right?

Yes.

In the final analysis, is there any resistance to whatever comes, even to you-being-at-odds-with-your-moods?

What do you mean?

I mean there’s one who is in repose even as that very contradiction. The one lacking nothing, simply ok as any arising, and even when joy passes away.

I’m not sure.

Inquire into that one. Follow each arising back to the one who is without lack, the one who offers no resistance. Or see through arising – and if you are a contradiction, then wholly embody the contradiction itself – taking it all the way to its end. Either way, it’s the same thing. Coming to just what’s here.

How?

Inquire into what has no name, into what is deaf, dumb, and blind. Become like an idiot, exactly like it, and you will see what emerges, as each and every wondrous thing.
